Plaza Mayor

Is one of the most visited and iconic attractions of Antigua Guatemala, known for its historical significance and stunning architectural landmarks.

It is surrounded by several notable buildings, including the Palace of the Noble Town Hall, which once served as the administrative center of the city, and the Episcopal Palace, a former residence of the bishop of the region. The San José Cathedral, with its baroque design and rich history, is a central feature of the plaza and draws visitors for both its beauty and cultural importance. Additionally, the Royal Palace of the Captains General, once the seat of colonial military and governmental power, adds to the grandeur and historical weight of the square.

At the heart of the Plaza Mayor lies the Fountain of the Sirenas, an elegant and timeless feature built in 1739. This fountain is not only a beautiful work of art but also an important symbol of the city’s colonial era.
